What to Expect - Your Lesson Journey

Before You Arrive

Book your preferred time slot online or give us a call. We recommend arriving 15 minutes early to get fitted for your wetsuit and board. Feel free to grab a coffee at our bar while you wait!

On the Beach (30 minutes)

Your instructor will teach you the fundamentals on the sand first - proper paddling technique, how to pop up on your board, wave selection, and ocean safety. This dry-land practice builds confidence before you hit the water.

In the Water (90 minutes)

Time to catch some waves! Your instructor will be right there with you, helping you choose the perfect waves and providing real-time coaching. Most students successfully ride their first wave within the first hour!

After Your Session

Rinse off in our hot showers, share stories about your experience, and get tips for continuing your surf journey. We'll be happy to recommend local surf spots and answer any questions.

Do I need any prior experience?

Absolutely not! Our lessons are designed for complete beginners, Intermediate surfers as well as experienced surfers. We'll teach you everything you need to know, starting with the basics on the beach before heading into the water. If you already are an intermediate then we build upon your current skills.

What should I bring?

Just bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, and your sense of adventure! We provide everything else - surfboard, wetsuit, and instruction. Optional: water bottle, change of clothes, and a waterproof camera to capture the memories.

What are the age requirements?

We teach students of all ages! Kids as young as 6 can learn to surf with us. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can stay on the beach during the lesson.

What if the weather is bad?

Safety is our top priority. If conditions are unsafe, we'll contact you to reschedule at no charge. Santa Monica has great surf conditions most of the year, so this is rare!

Will I actually stand up on the board?

Yes! About 97% of our students successfully ride a wave on their first lesson. Our instructors are experts at choosing the right waves and giving you the right push at the right time.

Is parking available?

Yes! There are several parking options nearby including metered street parking and public lots. We recommend arriving 15-20 minutes early to find parking and get settled.

We understand plans change. Here's our flexible cancellation policy:

24+ hours before lesson: Receive a 100% refund, no questions asked
12-24 hours before lesson: Receive a 50% refund or reschedule for free
Less than 12 hours before lesson: No refund, but you can reschedule at a 50% discounted rate
No-show: No refund, but you can reschedule at a 50% discounted rate

Weather-Related Cancellations: If we cancel due to unsafe conditions, you'll receive a 100% refund or free rescheduling option.
